God, Let us all die
“Running for her life from the bombs and rockets falling like a grey sky rain, as death surrounds her and all those fleeing, she holds her small kids’ hand and unconsciously praying out loud: Oh God let us all die, God let us all die”
One might think this is the prayer for the bittersweet choice they have, as it might hold some sort of relief from becoming handicapped left with a scar lasting forever, or relief from survivors guilt and pain if she or any of her family members survived while the others didn’t, should a God answers her prayer.
This prayer by a Syrian woman is far darker than it sounds, it’s not about her and her family, or her neighbourhood, or city or the many parties of the Syrian conflict.
This dark prayer is about us, all of us, those who are involved in the conflict, fleeing it, making money out of it, reporting it, filming it, writing about it, talking about it or being concerned or bother or scared by it, or not give a damn about it… it’s about all of us, all humans, the wish for all of us to vanish from the surface of this earth so that the space can be left for some other specie to establish what we failed to do… a peaceful civilisation.
The act of watching we are becoming good at brings flashbacks from the movie “The Gathering” where a group of people become immortal and are damned to watch catastrophes and murders for eternity, all because they stopped to watch the crucifixion of Christ out of morbid curiosity, 2000 years later and it seems we are doing the same.
If god was Hindu or Buddhist and allows reincarnation, and her prayer was answered we may all die but have a space to repent and a second chance to make this planet a better place than we did the first time.
But if a Christian, Jewish or a Muslim god answered her prayer, so we are gone!
“he will have to beg for my forgiveness,” says few of us, only a few!
