Ayurveda, Invest in your future self…

We all have heard of that term, we all do invest in a way or another, an MBA, a PhD, this course or that course, a short or long term assignment away from family and the list goes on and on and on… but hey, wait… is that really YOU ? are you really investing in YOUR future SELF ? or just taking what an employer is putting on the table as your future self? or probably just taking the next level of what you have studied because its the trend?

If you are still thinking about the answer, then most likely it’s no.. you are not investing in YOUR future SELF.

How it all began…

A few months ago, if you ask me if I have heard of the word Ayurveda, I will answer you absolutely… it’s this wonderful amazing spice tea with warm milk and brown sugar they used to serve in Vegafe in Vilnius…that cafe was my little hiding corner and that tea carried a strange but strong taste of home that I once -after a long talk- persuaded the waitress to give me the recipe in Lithuanian, and do you think I know Lithuanian? of course not !!

My knowledge expanded a bit beyond the delicious tea the night my beloved friend Ramia and her sweet family was visiting me in Stockholm when her husband Pascal says to me ” Rasha, this might be something for you knowing your situation, it’s not the cheapest but you know we spend money right and left in vacations and we spend money investing in this stock or that business, why not invest the money in your future self ?”

Knowing the factual person he is, those words coming from him made lots of sense… and there I go expanding my knowledge an inch by reading different articles about Ayurveda and the centres in Europe and selecting what best matched my need for relaxation, sun and sea.

Little did I know how powerful his words were and what a journey awaits me in Madeira at the Ayurveda cure centre run by the beautiful shining Birgit Moukom.

The warmth!

To talk about Ayurveda we can pull forward many Sanskritic words that will leave you focused on memorising them than understanding their meaning, we can also go back to basics, to the roots where things -all things- are simple and logical.

Remember the prolonged dinner conversation over a wonderfully warm delicious meal? or the warm feeling inside you after an act of kindness by a stranger ? or the warm “butterflies” in your stomach when you meet a person you like? or the warm cup of herbal tea your mom made you when you were sick? or your grandma’s home remedies for your wellness?

That’s what it’s all about, restoring your drained life energy by treating your body with warm respect, freeing your soul and helping you face your mental demons if you are willing to do so… all to make sure you “keep the fire burning” as the beautiful Belgian lady said to me while she was leaving the centre.

If, like me, you live closer to the arctic circle than to the equator yet your wardrobe is 90% summer clothes,

Or if you find yourself saying “ooh, I miss food” when you have just tasted a warm dish,

Or if you get puzzled when a stranger leaves you their sweater and probably never see you again,

Or if a candle is lit inside your heart when a random Kizomba dancer insists on you when saying “you look lonely there come and join us here”

Or if you hold back your tears when the yoga teacher says “just accept what is and go with the flow ..let it go”, little he knew what it meant to you.

… then know that the warmth has left you and gradually yet successfully you are or about to enter your human “ice age”.

The good news, If you invest in your future self, the warmth will come back to you!
