Reality Of Things (ROT)

Lately, in conversation with a friend we were discussing the fascinating new technologically created realities in a form of augmented reality or virtual reality and how that is transforming the way we experience, live, interact and connect with each other as humans, and how that is shaping the future reality we and coming generations will live in.

In some way those so-called “realities” made me reflect on the choice of calling this technology a reality, what is the roots of this word and how accurate is our perception of non-digital reality?

Reality, as defined by Oxford dictionaries, is The state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them. and the state or quality of having existence or substance.

But then with basic scientific knowledge, we all know that whatever we see outside of us starts with an upside-down image on our retina i.e. what we perceive as outside of us is actually an experience inside of us.

And on a day when we feel like a pretty substantial important person, have a lot of friends, or an important job, or lots of assets, but all of those things – the friends, the office, the really big car and assets, as well as we ourself, and even everything in this incredible, vast universe – are almost entirely 99.9999999 per cent EMPTY space.

So, really what is Reality?
